Caroline de Roussy de Sales, Owner, Chateau de la Chaize, Bourgogne France

  • The Marquise, Caroline de Roussy de Sales’s mother, Nicole, inherited this historic estate, in 1967 from her aunt the Marquise de Montaigu. In 1968 Nicole started an important program of restoration of the house, the gardens and the winery. This included scaling back the vineyards’ production by half and installing a gravity flow winery. Since 1972, the estate has been classified as a French National Historical Monument.

For most, Chateau de la Chaize is the benchmark in Brouilly, one of the Grand Crus of Beaujolais, Caroline, the vivacious, driven, charismatic daughter born on the estate, has carried the family name and reputation of the winery beyond its rich lineage to go to even greater lengths to increase their stewardship of the native habitat, to use non-invasive, sustainable methods in the vineyards, and to continue to insist on a meticulous level of quality while holding fast the incredible value inherent in a bottle of Chateau de la Chaize Brouilly, making it a favorite drinking wine of red, white, dry, and demi-sec drinkers world-wide.
